An artist-led ceramic encounter in Bodrum exploring how clay moves from form to sound through hands-on making, material knowledge, and ceramic percussion.
The Experience
The Sound of Clay™ approaches ceramics not simply as an object-making practice, but as a living field connecting form, sound, and rhythm.
Hosted in the artist’s own studio in Bodrum, the experience is shaped by a practice that brings together studio craft, material research, acoustic thinking, and musical knowledge. The artist’s master’s thesis focuses on ceramic percussion instruments, while his percussion practice has also been shaped through study with Mısırlı Ahmet.
Guests explore the essential stages of ceramic making — from clay preparation and hand-building to wheel work, firing, and glazing — through a combination of practical making and material-based explanation. Each participant creates a free-form hand-built piece, while the artist demonstrates the pottery wheel and guests who wish to do so may try it in turn.
Clay, tools, and the core materials required for the session are provided. Firing, glazing, packing, and delivery of selected guest-made pieces may be arranged as optional services upon request.
A licensed professional guide in the language appropriate to the group accompanies the experience, supporting the artist’s narrative and the wider cultural context.
The session closes through sound. The artist demonstrates darbuka and udu drum, performs a short live percussion sequence, and then invites guests to handle and play the instruments themselves — experiencing the relationship between surface, resonance, and rhythm firsthand.
